Furious 7 (2015)

Directed by: James Wan, Runtime: 2hrs. 17 mins.

Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese, Ludacris, Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell

The events that took place in London have followed Dom and his family home to LA in the form of Owen Shaw’s big bad older brother Deckard (Jason Statham). He is desperate for revenge and will stop at nothing until he has destroyed Dom. The crew bands together for what they call “one last ride” with hopes of leaving this life behind for good.

As soon as the movie begins it is apparent that the characters have started to settle into a life of normalcy. For the first time in years they aren’t on the run and don’t have to spend time looking over their shoulders. Even though this is what they wanted you can sense a little restlessness- especially in the case of Brian (Paul Walker).

Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is dealing with quite a bit of pressure and regret in this installment. Obviously having lost her memory- you can see tell that she is struggling to identify who she is. Everyone around her treats her as if she is the same person she has always been and Letty feels like that person is dead and never coming back.

Everyone finds out about the death of Han towards the beginning of the movie. His death affects each of them and you see how heavy it weighs on not only Dom, but Roman and Tej as well.

The addition of Deckard Shaw is pretty epic. Anytime Statham pops up in a movie bodies are definitely going to hit the floor.  Thankfully, he doesn’t disappoint in his first outing as the murderous Shaw.

Mr. Nobody is another character introduced in Furious 7 for the very first time. Played by Kurt Russell, he is an interesting man who seems to have a lot of resources and connections at his fingertips. We learn that he works at a Covert Ops base in El Segundo, CA, yet doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously.

Much like in the previous film, there is more than one thing that the crew is trying to accomplish this time around. #1 is obviously taking down Shaw before he kills or hurts any of them. #2 is pulling off a dangerous and near-impossible job for Mr. Nobody.

There is a highly valuable tracking device called “God’s Eye” that has been stolen by a ruthless mercenary named Jakande (Djimon Hounsou). This device is incredibly powerful as it allows a person to locate anyone on the planet at any time in just a matter of minutes. The young hacker who created the device, Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), has also been kidnapped.

If Dom and the crew can rescue Ramsey and get “God’s Eye” back, then Mr. Nobody will grant them authorization to use it to locate Shaw.

There are quite a few memorable moments in Furious 7 as the action is at an all-time high.

  1. “Cars apparently do fly

2. Brian and the Bus

3. Dom drives a car between THREE TOWERS in Abu Dhabi

Furious 7 is a wild ride and it is very important to the overall saga. It is no secret that Paul Walker unexpectedly passed away during the course of filming in late 2013. It was a painful loss for his family and friends, the Fast fans and obviously the cast and crew as well.

The producers and writers opted to retire his character in this movie and I thought it was handled in a very special way. Brian O’Conner was honored, but more importantly Paul Walker himself was too. He played an enormous role in making the Fast movies what they are today!

The Fate of the Furious hits theaters next Friday, April 14th and I’m really looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold. Vin Diesel has said that it kicks off a new trilogy and I for one am excited to see what our favorite racers will get into next!
