Live-Action Mulan

After the success of Disney’s live action version of The Jungle Book last year, we knew it was only a matter of time before other classics would get the same treatment. Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson premieres next month and now a live-action version of Mulan is also in the pipeline. As of this week, the film now officially has someone in the director’s chair.

Known for projects like Whale Rider, North Country and most recently The Zookeeper’s Wife, Niki Caro is no stranger to films starring powerful female leads. I think that her background is definitely important because the character Mulan is one of the strongest and most determined characters in all of Disney’s history.

I am hopeful that Niki Caro and her team will do Mulan justice and I can’t wait to see who is cast as the warrior-princess! I think that there are tons of Asian-American actresses who are more than capable so I’m excited for cast announcements. Mulan is expected in theaters November 2018. Let the countdown begin!
