Watch What You Let Rule Your Heart

There was a woman who got sick and was rushed to the hospital. Immediately after her arrival, the doctors began to run tests and take blood samples. What the tests determined was that the woman’s bones were beginning to turn brittle. They were becoming very fragile and had an extremely high chance of being fractured easier than the average person. The woman, afraid and fearing the worst, called her pastor and asked him to come and see her in the hospital. After praying for the ailing woman and crying out to God on her behalf, the Holy Spirit revealed to the pastor that the woman was sick and dying because she had let un-forgiveness eat at her heart for a very long time. Sure enough the woman confessed to having an issue with a family member for the past twenty years. God told the pastor to tell her that if she were to forgive that family member and call them on the phone- He would completely heal her. Teary eyed and ashamed, the woman did what the pastor instructed. Within the next twenty-four hours God began to work on her inside as well as her outside. Just as God had promised her she was completely healed and able to leave the hospital after only a few days.

You may have read this story and not taken it seriously. You may have accepted it as just that: a story. This actually happened and was told to me by the pastor who ministered to that woman. I was dumbfounded when I first heard this story because I couldn’t get over the fact that this woman had held a grudge for SO long. I’m not sure what transpired between her and the family member, but whatever it was it had such a negative effect on her that her health was put at risk!! How crazy is that? You might be thinking that you would never take a grudge that far, or that the person you haven’t forgiven doesn’t deserve your forgiveness. It may be tough to hear, but that is just not how God wants us as Christians to think.

We are clearly instructed by Jesus to forgive others, just like we have been forgiven.  God commands us in Luke 6:37,” Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.” This is what the Lord would have us to do. If nothing else, forgive that person for yourself. Don’t wind up physically, mentally or emotionally sick because you can’t get past someone’s wrongdoing against you. Imagine if we were not given the opportunity to ask God for forgiveness. I myself would be in serious trouble. I’ve repented SO many times and some of those times I turned right around and did the same bad things all over AGAIN.

Another thing to consider is that the other person has most likely moved on with their lives. They aren’t lying awake every night worrying about what they said or did, while you on the other hand are struggling and can barely stay afloat. You’ve let un-forgiveness rule your heart and it has seeped into every aspect of your life. The scary thing is that you may not even realize it! There are many things that can potentially keep us from pleasing God and making Him proud. Don’t let an un-forgiving spirit be one of them. Let go. Let God work on you and most importantly let go of that hurt and anger. Let go of all the grudges. I believe that you will sleep easier at night and other relationships will began to flourish.

Here is all you have to do:

  1. Repent and ask God for forgiveness and new outlook on the situation.
  2. Spend time in prayer and sincerely ask for a heart makeover.
  3. Let go of the grudge(s) you are holding.

Keep in mind that these steps won’t work if you aren’t fully sincere about changing because the Lord knows your heart. If you are serious and want a complete makeover, I dare you to try it! You’ll know that this process has worked when you feel lighter and begin to smile more. Whenever you see or hear about the person, your blood won’t begin to boil and you won’t roll your eyes. You’ll find yourself praying for them and genuinely wishing them the best. Trust me, “letting go” really does work.  Other people will probably notice your change in attitude and that is when you take the opportunity to tell them about the God you serve and how He redeemed you! Live life and be a bright light for Jesus Christ! It is my prayer that you will grow a little closer to the Father today than you did yesterday.
